The story of Jared and his family found in the beginning of the book of Ether in the Book of Mormon has so many parallels to our life journey. On this read-through I was especially impacted by how the Lord prepared them for the journey to be really, really difficult. He describes mountain waves that would dash upon them, and Ether describes furious winds and monsters of the deep. But the Lord promised that they would have His light in the depths, and that He would always bring them back to the surface.
We are really in the depths right now as a family, as we lost our beloved 18-year-old daughter last month. All I can do is hold on to these promises: that He is in charge of the winds and the floods and will not leave us to cross these great waters in darkness. I know that the wind never ceases to blow up towards Him, if we let him steer our little ships.
